Have you seen mythical beast named Learning Style

There have been many debates about the efficiency of learning styles based learning, is it just a buzz or something worth in education. One article from EdSurge by Dan Belenky laments very descriptively that it is only a myth https://www.edsurge.com/news/2017-08-15-why-stubborn-myths-like-learning-styles-persist?.

But OK, let's start from the beginning, what is learning style actually.

Determine your child’s best learning style

Have you ever wondered how you observe, transform and remember severe information? Or how your child is doing it? It's all learning styles. In fact, learning styles, one of the most important tools to build knowledge. This is exactly why the subject gained considerable attention with professionals in the media and in the education system, especially among parents who wants to motivate their children to learn in the best way. Learning styles has in recent years been very up in the debate. Many schools have had courses in learning styles and there has been an increased focus on how each child learns.

We all learn in our own way and may not have an idea in advance about our learning style. But with the relatively simple tools and a renewed focus on learning, we become more aware of our individual approach. The goal is of course to make it more fun and more effective to learn throughout life.

Learning styles is indicative of the way the individual learner learn best in each situation and within a given substance. Parent learning styles can be divided into reflectors, theorists, activists and pragmatists. Most people have a preferred learning style and the goal is to work with the learning styles, not mastered as well. Any learning situation should make it possible to access based on the various learning styles.

By giving the learners the opportunity to select the input for the new material, as best suited to their learning style, you will be able to sharpen their interest in the substance and give the learners the opportunity for success experiences. By having the material and process that supports all four learning styles, you will be able to ensure that the learner is going completely around the learning circle and thus achieve holistic learning.

Where to look for the learning styles?

Many factors come into play when it comes to improving learning. How your child's best teacher depends on over-generally if it is oriented toward wholes or details.

Some children are holistic. They live in the present moment. They have fun and they often question – why do we teach it? These children have to see a purpose for why they have to learn. They would also like to have an influence on learning and create their own structure. These children often cause distress in schools, since there’s often spent much time and energy to explain the underlying meaning.

Conversely, other kids more detail-oriented. They learn the best when there is a clear framework for learning. When they can work on one thing at a time. These children would first and foremost clear instructions from teachers and perhaps does not have so many reflective questions:

A lot of children are what I call drill children. They are adapting by learning in a specific order, inform themselves much from one part to the next and goes down in substance. It is typically the children who do well in school and those who learn to immerse themselves in the fabric. On the other hand, they must be detail-oriented and remember to develop the critical faculties. This can also be learned.

Four different but equal learning styles
When we have to learn well and effectively, there are some things that, above all, must be in place. We must, among other things, be in balance emotionally, we should be motivated, we need to have a good relationship with the people we need to work together with. Everyone knows how difficult it is to concentrate if you are sad or stressed. Everyone knows that it is simply not working if you are not motivated and interested in what is on the agenda. Everyone knows how hopeless it can be if you are forced to cooperate with people you don't really socialize with. And then there is the learning style, it’s really important for our learning that we know our own way to obtain knowledge as best as possible. Here are the four most basically learning styles:

VIEW-children: They are crazy about books, comics and movies. They read by watching the words for themselves. They draw, write, poet and participates in a group, take notes of what they work with. Speaking generally not high.

HEAR-children: love to get the material told, listens actively and participates engaged in group-work. Remember the long explanations and rote learning and likes to be heard.

TOUCH-children: they concentrate the best when they have something in their hands. Learn best by drawing and listening at the same time. Adults should not talk too much. Active and interested in new topics.

TOUCH/FEEL-children: they have gunpowder in a certain limb. Hard to concentrate long at a time. Has to be physical. Requires much attention and is often characterized as a "Misfit".

Your learning style is already determined at kindergarten age

Already down to 4-years of age, it is possible to identify different learning styles with the children. There has been increased focus on the topic from the pedagogical staff responsible for preparing learning plans, describe the areas of competence and put into words the children's individual skills and ability to acquire knowledge.

It is really important that the employees of the daycare institutions have begun to quality ensure the pedagogical work and involve learning styles even more actively in everyday life. Children must not be put in the boxes, but constantly have individual deals. With learning styles, we have simply gotten a conceptual framework and some easily available tools that are an asset for the children and their parents.

Help for self-help

Some people are fighting a battle to help, support and motivate children to homework help. But often they just perpetuate their own more or less conscious learning style for children. It is not always the best for the child. I often give concrete advice, simple instructions and small eye openers with a smile on your face. It must be fun to learn something new. Parents know their children best and I will correct you, in reality probably a little on the inside-learning modes.

Back to beginning

I agree with Dan Balanky, this is hard to measure. But only, if this is the definition of learning styles.

According to Mariaemma Willis and Victoria Kindle Hodson in their book ˝Discover Your Child´s Learning Style˝, learning style is a little bit more, it is a mixture of talents, learning dispositions, interests, modality (previously defined as learning styles) and environment.

Each child has its own unique combination of learning styles. If it's multiplied only with dispositions and talents, the child can have more then 60 basic learning styles. And they are changing in time. It is the reason why it's so hard to match child's learning style and, I guess, during measurement observers did not have the tool to quickly adopt learning style. I hope you got the picture, learning area is very versatile per each child and it is hard to match styles without proper tools. Consequently why measurements were not possible.

What if

One big idea, without judging measurements, theory or anything else but just reactions of kids... we found interesting videos and online games and grouped them on child´s interests. And you know what, kids react very positive on them. They enjoyed in robotics, humor, music, pet video clips and etc.

What if this is the way to find media equivalents of talents and dispositions.  What if learning style components do raise motivation for learning. maximize learning efficiency and motivation.

The only way to raise learning interest is by an individual approach to each child and to make personalized learning. With current resources it is utopia. But, here is another approach, if the technology is used to mimic learning styles with media equivalents... it is easy to create most personalized learning with current technology.
