“Sam wants to buy two video games for $50 a piece. He has $80 dollars. Will Sam have enough money? Why or Why not?”

Then go further by asking if the students could come up with ideas for Sam to make the needed amount of money to buy the games.

Make math time fun.

The best way to keep students engaged is to use varying methods and resources. Use technology, and a combination of games and direct learning. Don’t make lessons too long, keep instruction short and then use practice time as a way to instruct through games.(4)
